Summary: Maru is at a loss as to what he should get Ueda for Chirstmas, Kame offers a solution that can help them both.

Maru looked from his piece of paper to the man leaning by the wall looking out the window. This wasn’t going to be easy, not at all. He looked at his paper again hoping that he could have possibly read the name wrong. UEDA TATSYUA, nope -right name right boy. Who’s stupid idea was it to get kat-tun together to play ‘Secret Santa’ anyways?

Maru had no clue what to get the older man, the first thing that came to mind was something including Gackt, but Ueda probably had all the Gackt merchandise he could need anyways. Ueda seemed like the type who would frown at any material gift, it would have to be something special. Something would have to be magical to bring a smile to that normally troubled face. What would Ueda want as a gift?

“Ueda-kun?” Maru asked, the party went on behind them, everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves. He could hear Jin whining to see whom Kame got and the other man refusing him and saying that was against the rules.

“Yeah?” Ueda tore his eyes away from the snow falling peacefully beyond the glass. It looked like little fairies dancing, each carried by their own little breeze; a mad dance before they met their end on the ground. So much like a person’s life in fast motion; a mad dash for attention then the crash at the end and no more.

“Wondering why you’re standing here alone,” Maru chuckled. “What are you thinking about?”

“Life,” Ueda said simply, he gave a soft sweet smile at Maru who as usual had no clue what to say to the normally silent man.

“…” Maru looked uncomfortable for a moment, he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He had very pressing thoughts, how was he going to figure out what Ueda wanted without giving away that he was his Santa?

“Tat-chan!” Maru was saved when a dark brown ball of fluffy hair all but pounced their leader. Jin grinned as he wrapped an arm around Ueda’s smile shoulders in a hug. “Merry Christmas!” Jin laughed at Ueda’s annoyed face.

“It’s not Christmas yet…” Maru laughed at how Ueda squirmed trying to break the unwanted physical contact. If only he could get the older man a can of Bakanishi-repellent all would be good.

“But it’s close enough isn’t it?” Jin asked, “Look it’s even snowing!”

“It is.” Ueda answered politely, Jin elbowed him in the ribs.

“You could act a little more enthusiastic,”

“I could.” Ueda answered back, sticking firmly to his two word sentences.

“Maybe Ueda-kun doesn’t like Christmas?” Maru asked- Jin looked stricken.

“Who doesn’t like Christmas?” Jin poked one of Ueda’s cheeks, he grinned at the older man. “I’m sure Tat-chan loves the holidays, we should get him a cute little Santa hat!” Ueda looked horrified by the very thought.

“Is that what you want for a gift!” Maru asked casually hoping no one would notice he was interested; he really wanted to surprise Ueda. Besides he would lose the game if anyone knew it was him, and it wasn’t nearly as fun when you knew who other people had to be Santa for.

“No.” Ueda said flatly, and it seemed he wasn’t going to elaborate; Maru chewed on his lip but was again saved by Jin.

“Then what do you want?”

“A puppy.” There was silence as both boys stared at the leader.

“A puppy?” Maru asked blinking, Ueda looked serious.

“Yes.” Ueda felt slightly satisfied by their shocked faces. Now if only he could get them to leave him alone, he was enjoying watching the snow fall, it looked so romantic. He could imagine a walk through the park, the snow falling softly on his head, someone walking beside him, brushing the snow from his face; kissing him softly.

“Awww, is Tat-chan lonely?” Jin kidded, much to the black haired man’s embarrassment he could feel his cheeks flush with colour.

“N-no.” Ueda sputtered, he should just shut up now; he was only incriminating himself further. “I’m going to go get something to drink.” He muttered shrugging Jin off of him; Ueda cut a straight line for the punch table. Jin laughed; he turned to Maru and winked.

“Kame wouldn’t tell me who he got for the Santa thing, will you?”

Maru thought long and hard, he could go out and buy Ueda a puppy, but he still wasn’t sure is the other man had been serious. Besides, how do you wrap a puppy? He was thinking about this over a small stack of toast the following morning, he had a week to either:

1. Find a way to wrap a puppy.
2. Find a way to solve Ueda’s loneliness.
3. Buy him something flashy and expensive that Ueda would only pretend to like.

Most of all Maru didn’t want Ueda to be unhappy with his gift. So that eliminated number three. Unless he could think of something really cool in a week. That left a lot of thinking but not a lot of actual doing.

The phone ringing interrupted his musings; he lifted it to his ear leaving his pile of toast uneaten.

“Hello?” He asked, caller id said it was Kame’s mobile but he couldn’t think of a single reason why the other man would want to talk to him on such a morning.

“H~I” Kame said in what could only be called a singsong voice that was improper for anytime before noon. “Maru, are you busy?”

“Not really…” Maru looked at his pile of toast knowing what was coming.

“Good, can you come and meet me? We’ll do coffee.” Kame sounded very happy about this, and Maru sighed; he would miss his toast.

“When should I meet you?” Maru asked,

“Soon, considering I’m standing outside your apartment complex right now.” Maru blinked, walked over to his curtain to look outside, sure enough there was Kame standing across the street; he gave a merry little wave. “And it’s rather cold.”

“Alright then…” Maru closed his curtains and looked at his pyjama-clad body. “I’ll be about ten minutes, see you then.”

“Bai bai,”

Fifteen minutes found them in a little coffee shop, Maru was sipping some strong coffee, Kame was drinking a cappuccino.

“So what did you bring me out here for?” Maru asked, Kame put his hand down and looked at Maru his face all business.

“You have Ueda for secret Santa.” Kame said casually,

“H-how did you know?” Maru said, Kame only gave him a smirk.

“I know all.”

“But, that’s not fair, you’re going to ruin the surprise!” Maru was for lack of a better word pouting. Kame laughed at him, that gleam coming into his eyes that said he had a higher purpose.

“There is no fair in the game of love Maru.” Kame sipped his drink making a face when it scalded his lips.

“We aren’t playing love, we’re playing Secret Santa.” Maru said frowning, Kame reached out and pinched Maru’s cheek.

“You’re missing my point!” Maru rubbed his cheek and remained silent as Kame carried on. “We have an opportunity to do something so much more here!”

“Like?” Maru put both his hands over his cheeks in case Kame decided that he was still missing the point.

“You have Ueda, his one true Christmas wish is to not be lonely right?” Kame asked looking over his drink. Maru nodded, though he was perplexed as to how Kame would know that. “I have,” Maru’s eyes widened not really wanting to hear, because that would ruin the game for him too, Kame ignored him, “Jin.”

“…” Maru frowned, “Jin? What’s he got to do with anything?” Kame pinched the other cheek this time, Maru glared at him.

“Jin’s one true Christmas wish is for Ueda.”

“…” Maru blinked once, looked at Kame to make sure he wasn’t kidding blinked again, bit his tongue to stop from laughing. “Y-you want me to believe that Jin wants Ueda-kun?!”

“Isn’t that what I said?” Kame looked vaguely annoyed, Maru thought about this; nope still didn’t make much sense. “Listen I know it’s hard to believe but I heard it from his mouth.”

“How did you do that?” Maru asked, Kame only winked at him,

A lot of beer.” Maru frowned, why hadn’t he thought of that when trying to figure out what Ueda-kun wanted?

“How do you know what Ueda-kun wants?” Maru asked still quite sure there was part of this equation he was missing.

“Come on, look at him,” Kame made a flippant hand gesture, “A boy like that needs to get laid.” He chuckled, “In cases like his there is only three things you can really do: One, find him a stable lover who will love him. Two, Buy him a prostitute. Three, Buy him a puppy, but puppies are hard to wrap.” Maru could only stare at the younger man in wonder.

“But Jin?”

“Well Jin is already head over heels for Ueda, so that’s half of the problem right there.”

“…” Maru found the problem, “I can’t see Ueda-kun spending more then an hour alone with Jin, let alone an entire working relationship.”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine, Jin isn’t always annoying and I’m going to assume around the season of romance Ueda going to be rather desperate.”

“Not the most ideal relationship conditions are they?” Maru asked; Kame only shrugged.

“You can’t be picky when it comes to your heart.” Kame smiled secretly to himself and Maru decided right there that he didn’t want to know. He was already going to have nightmares thinking about his two band mates going at it, he didn’t want to even wonder about Kame.

“So then now that I officially know more about Jin’s preferences then I ever needed to know, what are we going to do about it?” Kame grinned at him,

“I was wondering when you were going to ask that.”

Ueda sat alone during the small gathering, he was seated quite happily on Kame’s couch, one hand gripping his wine the other dangling listlessly off the armrest. He watched the others, it was his role to watch, stand on the sidelines and make sure all the rules of fair play were followed. It wasn’t a position he had chosen himself but he stuck to it gladly, if only to help his friends. He was lonely though, he wished he could just swagger over and sit on someone like Koki did; he was immediately drawn into the conversation at the point. Alas Ueda didn’t like the idea of simply sitting on someone, that didn’t seem right, or safe –he didn’t like being molested by band mates nor made fun of. Even if he did do something like that he wondered if he could just fall into the beat of conversation like that?

“Tat-chan!” Kame sat beside him, the couch dipping under the younger man’s weight. Ueda looked at the happy man, he had a crooked Santa hat covering his hair, Junno wore a matching one, and Ueda hadn’t let them near him with the other. “Come in the kitchen!”

“What’s in the kitchen?” Ueda asked; Kame only smiled at him, what Ueda didn’t know couldn’t possibly hurt him. Well it could, depending on how rough Jin wanted it, but Kame had faith that Jin wasn’t some sadist in disguise. Kame blinked a few times to clear away irrelevant thoughts.

“Cake!”

“Ahhh No!” Junno wailed, having been beaten by Koki at Kame’s game once again, Jin and Maru were watching and Jin laughed and poked Junno in the ribs. Ueda looked longingly at them; how he hated this season- it made him feel all mushy.

“Cake?” Koki asked, having completed gloating over the defeated acrobat.

“In the kitchen.” Kame parroted with an easy smile.

“Christmas cake?” Jin asked, looking at the two on the couch with interest.

“No, Easter cake.” Kame deadpanned, everyone laughed.

Everyone was sitting in the kitchen, six boys made quite the racket. Maru sat on Kame’s counter watching them. Well okay, watching two. He watched as Ueda moved through them holding the forks –as it was rather hard to eat cake with chop sticks- Junno was after him holding cups, Koki was after that with the plates Jin was the finale of their little parade holding the large cake. Kame leaned on the counter beside him, watching the other four set the table, Junno started arguing with Jin over who would cut the cake while Koki went and did it while they were distracted, Ueda watched them, and Maru and Kame watched him.

“Well, still think it’s a bad idea?” Kame said speaking low,

“No…” the more he had begun to pay close attention to their leader the more he realized that this would be a good for him. Ueda seemed happy but he also seemed very lonely, Jin may be an idiot but he seemed like an idiot who could treat a boy right.

“Tell me I’m a genius.” Kame said with the smug tilt of his chin.

“…”

“Come on tell meee…”

“Fine, Kame; you are a genius.”

“I know.”

“…”

“Oi!” Jin said walking over to them, he had a piece of cake on his plate and was grinning. “It’s your cake Kame, you should have some, Junno’s about the eat the whole thing all by himself.”

“Save some for me!” Maru cried jumping off the counter and over to the cake.

“…” Jin looked at Kame who only smiled at him. “You’re planning something aren’t you?” Jin narrowed his eyes playfully at the other man. Kame winked at him.

“I suppose, you’re just going to have to find out now aren’t you?” Kame moved off the counter. “Hey! Cut a piece for me, I bought it after all!” Kame left Jin to contemplate what he could possibly be planning.

Jin was sitting on Kame’s couch, Koki was sitting next to him, Junno on the other side of that, Ueda had a chair all to himself and the last two were sitting on pillows on the floor. In the middle: six presents, six boys. He watched the light play off of the shiny paper- it was mesmerizing. ‘Not as much as Ueda though’, Jin knew that was corny, he knew half the things he wanted to say to Ueda were corny. Most would be considered low grade pick up lines, but he really did mean them from the bottom of his heart. That alone had to mean something … right?

“Presents time!” Junno yelled- there was a round of cheering.

Ueda looked again at the card in his hands, it had come attached to a necklace that Maru had gotten him.

Meet me in the park at 11

Ueda frowned, what on earth could Maru want on such a night? The sky was filled with clouds, it looked like it would snow any minute. Ueda pulled his scarf up to cover more of his face; his cheeks were becoming rosy with the slightly chill in the air.

“Tat-chan!?” Jin asked, he approached the shorter man from behind. Ueda looked up at him, confusion swimming in dark brown eyes, petal pink lips slightly parted, Jin couldn’t help but smile like a moron. Kame had filled him in, told him that this was his chance to finally come out and tell Ueda that he liked him-a lot- possibly loved him? What a perfect night to do it on, he could almost taste the love in the air.

“Jin?” Ueda had the cutest puzzled look; Jin decided that when he could call Ueda his, he would tell him that. He would tell Ueda he was beautiful so many times that the other boy wouldn’t be able to doubt it for a moment. I would be his next big hit single, ‘My boyfriend is prettier then snow!’, he could work on the title later. “What are you doing here?”

“Kame told me to wait for him in the park,” Jin smiled at Ueda, who didn’t catch the little white lie.

“I’m waiting for Maru,”

“Well, while we wait let’s walk.” Jin held out his arm in a very gentlemanly fashion, the shorter boy ignored that; he levelled a slightly annoyed look.

“I just want to meet Maru and go home to bed.” How about coming home to my bed? Jin kept his mouth shut wisely. “If we stay put we have a better chance of finding them.”

“…It’s not as cold when you walk.”

“…”

“I’ll buy you a hot chocolate?” Jin offered,

“Deal.” Jin offered his arm again, only to have pretty eyes rolled at him.

Ueda couldn’t think of a more romantic atmosphere, with the soft lighting from the lamps reflecting off the fresh snow, even the way his breath rose in small puffs when it left his mouth. And here he was with Jin. This was something he hadn’t foreseen. Jin was oddly silent, staring straight ahead, his hands deep in his pockets, smiling to himself in that way that only he could.

“Oh!” Jin said suddenly causing Ueda to jump, “It’s starting to snow!” Jin’s face shine with pure childish happiness at this; he couldn’t help but smile back.

“Let’s hurry to the coffee stand!”

“But it’s only the fluffy snow!” Ueda gave him a puzzled look.

“Fluffy snow?”

“You know when the snow flakes are all big and the snow looks like cotton,” Jin caught a falling flake on his glove and showed it to Ueda before it melted. “See, it looks soft, cute…” like you.

“I’ve never looked at it like that before.”

The hot chocolate from the closing coffee vendor was hot enough for him to feel through his gloves and the cup. Jin hadn’t ordered anything for himself but still insisted on paying for Ueda’s. They had argued for a moment over this before Jin gave the confused man the money and almost dragged the shorter man away.

“Hey, Ueda…” Jin said; the unnatural tone of seriousness in his voice caught the bandleader’s attention.

“Yeah?” Jin’s hand of his arm stopped him; he looked up at the taller man in confusion. They had stopped under a light and it threw them into a little circle that illuminated the softly falling snow.

“I have something I want to say to you.”

“…?” Ueda didn’t have half a clue what Jin could possibly want to say to him.

“Ueda Tatsuya, I think I love you.” There simple as that, Jin had said it, Ueda blinked at him once, then again. “I think I’ve loved you for a long time, I’m just a little slow at these things.” Jin looked at the snow at his feet, drawing on his boundless confidence; he met Ueda’s lost eyes. “I want you to know that I think you’re the greatest boy that I’ve ever met. You are sweet, you are strong enough to control the five of us, and you care about us. Not to mention; you’re beautiful, stunning actually. I really really think I love you. If you let me love you, I promise, I’ll treat you right, like a boy like you deserves. And… I’ll never make fun of Gackt ever again.”

There was a pause where Jin waited with such bated breath that one could hear the sound of the snow falling.

“...Ueda? Are you crying?” Jin’s eyes widened as another drop fell from wide brown eyes smudging eyeliner as it fell. “Don’t do that! It might freeze you’re eyes shut,” And after a pause he added what he really wanted to say, “And your eyes are to pretty for that.”

That got him a hiccup from the shorter man, who for what it was worth hadn’t meant to cry. But… it was so sweet! It wasn’t his fault if he was sensitive.

“Please stop crying Tat-chan,” Jin begged, he wiped one of his cheeks with a soft glove. “I didn’t mean to make you cry, don’t hate me!”

“You’re such a moron.” Ueda said softly, he debated it for a moment then threw his cup at the ground so he could wrap is arms around Jin’s neck. “I couldn’t hate you after that!”

“Good,” Jin held the slight man in his arms, happy that he could finally say that he had confessed to Ueda and Ueda liked him back. “Because I’m quite sure, I really do love you.”

“That was so sweet it almost hurt,” Maru whispered the to the man crouching beside him.

“It really was,” Kame answered- he really was a genius!

“…Awww,” Maru bit his hand to stop from making any more embarrassing noises, Kame looked at him oddly. “…It’s just SO sweet!”

“Jin can be a real sweetheart,” Kame nodded in agreement- but he knew that all along. “Besides, that was a lot easier then wrapping a puppy wasn’t it?”
